Welcome to the Wrexham Season 1 recap
The first season of the series saw two Hollywood stars, Ryan and Rob, attempt to revive one of the three-old professional Football Club Association, Wrexham Club, in 1864.
The Hollywood duo have no experience managing a sports team. The docu-series highlights the pair’s hope to improve the team and make a positive difference in Wrexham’s local club community. The series also chronicles the rise of the team’s position in the National League after the Hollywood dynamic duo took over.
The series begins with Rob and Ryan checking out the grounds and club in Wrexham before investing in the club and taking ownership of it. The series then talks about Ryan and Rob’s takeover of the football club on news channels and speculates whether it is one of their publicity stunts.
The public questioned Ryan and Rob’s decision to take over Wrexham Football Club rather than another club. Rob’s interview is shown to the audience where he talks about being a sports fan from the start but has no sporting ability or talent. He talks more about his family being Eagles fans and then showing his family around the house.
During the 2020 COVID-19 lockdown period, Rob was inspired to buy Wrexham AFC after watching Mythic Quest. The football team has an illustrious past and has been out of the English Football League for several years.
Rob enlists the help of fellow actor Ryan to buy the club, and the two Hollywood stars officially extend the deal to Wrexham’s club owner. News of the pair’s proposal met with confusion from fans and ridicule from media outlets.
The pair’s proposal to own the club was accepted by the board with more than 90% of votes. The pair are ignorant of football, and after settling the contract, they bring in an expert, Sean Harvey, to help the football team. The team’s players worry that the team’s new ownership will prove detrimental to their careers.
In the series, the Hollywood star duo convinced a new player to bet to play for the Wrexham club. Following several ups and downs for the team under new ownership, the series ended with Wrexham missing out on promotion but receiving a pep talk from Rob. Rob told the team that they gave football fans hope for a better future.
