Stray Kids Rule With ‘S-CLASS’ At The 2023 MTV Awards
Stray Kids is a boy band originally based in South Korea and formed by JYP Entertainment. The band formed in 2017 through a reality show.
The current members of the band are Hyunjin, Bang Chan, Changbin, Seungmin, Lee No, Felix, IN and Han. Another member Woojin left the band in October 2019 for undisclosed reasons. Boy bands perform in genres such as K-pop, electronica and hip hop.
Stray Kids the boy band has released four albums so far including three Korean albums and one Japanese album. Stray Kids pre-debuted in January 2018 with an extended play mix tape with names like ‘I Am Not’ which was followed by two further series of EPs titled ‘I Am Who’ and ‘I Am You’. .

A wayward kid’s journey to making a chart-topping hit
Stray Kids’ debut album was launched in 2020 titled ‘Go Live’. The album was a commercial success, receiving a platinum certification by the Korea Music Content Association (KMCA).
Here in 2020 Stray Kids also released another album which was their Japanese debut titled ‘SKZ2020’ and was recorded by Epic Records Japan. Stray Kids launched their second album in 2021 titled ‘Noisy’ and it was also a hit selling over a million albums.
Stray Kids released their third album, Five Star, in 2023, which debuted at number three on the US Billboard 200, at number three, and also charted on the UK Albums Chart.
As of 2020 Stray Kids has successfully sold over 10 million copies of their bilingual albums in Japan and Korea.
A great victory for wayward children
On the night of September 13, Stray Kids won the Best K-Pop award, sending shockwaves through the digital cosmos at the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs). The group then performed the same single that got them this huge win at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ.
During the acceptance speech, Bang Chan expressed his gratitude, saying, “We’ve been making our music since the beginning of our career, but receiving this award really means a lot to us.” Felix then added to the speech by thanking JYP Entertainment, Republic Records and their dedicated fans, promising exciting things in the future.
They showcased their carefully choreographed routines with their synchronized steps and intricate vocals. Bang Chan delivers the line, “I’m as luxurious as an S-Class / The best of the best, first class,” with perfection.
Fans love Taylor’s reaction to Stray Kids
As the performance progressed, in just a few minutes, the Stray Kids were able to take complete control of the Prudential Center. The enthusiastic response from the crowd reflected the team’s skill, reverberating throughout the venue. One of the proudest moments for Stray Kids was when their performance caught the attention of music sensation Taylor Swift, who gave them a standing ovation. Fans were quick to respond to her response and made it a viral trend on Weibo.
The single that brought them the award, titled “S-Class,” is a track featured on their album “5-STAR,” which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart in June. The achievement marks Stray Kids’ third No. 1 project on the Billboard 200, following their success with “MAXIDENT” and “ODDINARY” the previous year.
Not only at The MTV Awards, Stray Kids became more popular for their achievements. Their tour, “Stray Kids 5-Star Dome Tour 2023” in Osaka, came as a surprise to their Japanese fans. Their explosive collaboration with renowned Japanese artist Lisa, who is famous for her anime soundtracks, including the celestial “Demon Slayer,” has been widely admired by fans around the world.
