Michael Lucas’ Australian period drama “The Newsreader” recently released its new second season. So grab your calendars and mark the date because we’ll tell you all about the show and its season 2 episode 2, when it’s out and where you can watch it.
Set in an Australian newsroom in the 1980s, the show sets out to explore the lives of journalists and news reporters working there. It gives fans a kind of behind-the-scenes look at their professional lives as well as a little glimpse into their personal lives.
The show stars actress Anna Torv as the first female reporter of the time, Helen Norville, a character that vividly depicts the troubled lives of working-class women who face sexism and outright discrimination in their workplaces.
Actor Robert Taylor, playing Geoff Walters, also a reporter working with Helen, is also a great addition to the show’s cast.
Apart from these two, the main cast of the show includes talented actors like Sam Reed, William McNece, Marg Downey, Stephen Peacock, Chai Hansen, Michelle Lim Davidson and many others who make the show a treat to watch.
The series became the most-watched ABC show of 2021, and rightly so, as it managed to average over a million viewers. Fans and critics appreciate the authentic storyline and the way it is crafted with an unbiased perspective. The characters are complex and have dimensions that definitely make the show worth watching.
Since its release, it has been nominated for various awards and accolades, and it continues to gain popularity with its recently premiered second season. You can continue reading below as we tell you all about the current season and the soon-to-be-released second episode.
Newsreader Season 2 Episode 2: Recap
This first season of the show, The Newsreader, was set in 1986, and this brand new second season began in 1987. As we have seen, Helen struggled with the utter hatred of her male colleagues, paying a heavy price for her mental health.
Although we thought things had gone to hell for her, thankfully, she was able to find some comfort in Dale Jennings, who works at the same news house as Helen, as a junior reporter at News at Six. The two become romantically involved, at first beginning their relationship in secret but eventually coming out as a couple.
The second season begins with Dale and Helen’s office romance being accepted by their colleagues and they even get the title of Golden Couple of News despite all their worries. After all the rocky waves of the previous season to keep their boat moving, Geoff Walters seems to have become a little more unstoppable.
He made a comeback this season, returning to the news game after switching teams and moving to a rival news network. He worried that he would be left behind or lose his influence in the field, and, hoping to maintain it, he seems to have partnered with an equally powerful newsroom.
Excitement is high, yet again, as fans get ready to face the rough confrontations and rivalries the producers of the show are going to throw their way.
