Detroit mother suffers critical medical emergency, leaves behind 12 children
Family loses mother of 12 after medical emergency
Twelve brothers and sisters are now grieving the loss of their mother after one sibling found Tiffany Holliday dead on the floor. He suffered a stroke earlier this year and was hospitalized over Labor Day weekend.
Detroit (Fox 2) – A grieving family is left to pick up the pieces after a Detroit mother of 12 died from a medical emergency earlier this week.
One of Tiffany Holliday’s daughters found her on the floor Tuesday morning. He was only 42 years old.
“It’s sad that mom passed away when she has little kids here to look after,” a family member said. “It’s just so hard.”
Tiffany was remembered as one of the most giving people around, finding time and space to care for others even in such a large family. She threw birthday parties and graduation parties for her kids and the kids who lived in the neighborhood.
“I’m disabled I couldn’t take care of myself. He opened his door for me. He did it for me, he did it for everybody,” said his brother James Holliday. “It didn’t matter who you were, white, black, yellow green, he did everything he could to help the community.”
The unexpected tragedy is the latest in a series of medical problems Tiffany has dealt with this summer.
Earlier in July he suffered a stroke. He was in the hospital when he was able to come home over Labor Day weekend. Then one of her kids makes a devastating discovery.
“It was a horrible moment. You never want to see kids, especially at that age, find their mom on the floor like that,” James said. “It was just crazy.”
She is survived by her children, ages 1 to 26, including her son Corey Williams.
“Take care of my little sisters and make sure they’re straight, make sure they’re fed and okay,” she said, describing her responsibilities without her mother.
Even as the family finds a place to grieve, they hope to give their mother a proper send-off because “that’s what she would have wanted,” James said.
“We’re just asking for your help. We’ve set up a gofundme and we just need your help and support and try to help put Tiffany away properly,” he said. “He gave so much to the community and so much to these kids.”
